The little things
While scrounging around in my attic for shoes that might fit me (my feet have completely changed shape since my pregnancy but that is a whole other post) I found the new king size down pillows that my mom had brought over after Simon was born. I must have put them somewhere bothersome because they wound up in the attic thanks to my husband and his borderline OCD.
So I decided to retire our pillows and try these new ones and man are they awesome. Funny how such a small change can make all the difference.
Wow, what a boring post...is this what my life has become?
On the upside the new U2 album comes out on March 2 - what I have heard so far is a bit meh but I am reserving judgement until I can listen to the whole thing. New album = new tour. Too bad I will probably only see one show - if I am lucky - Ticketmaster is merging with Live Nation which is sure to eff up any attempts to buy tickets on my part. I am not even sure it would be worth the effort frankly - wow did I jut say that?
Grad school is heating up...I have to complete 15 hours with a student - my literacy partner. While I love doing this sort of thing it is a major pain to find someone when you are not teaching. Thankfully my friend has loaned me her son for this purpose - he is in third grade and I am meeting with him this afternoon.
Tuesday I take the Praxis I. I am scared out of my wits that I will fail the math part...I did a practice test and just barely made the passing score for PA certification. I really do not want to have to take this test more than once...sigh...we shall see what happens.
OK, that is pretty much all that is going on here. Simon is getting bigger and bigger. His baptism is March 1 so we are gearing up for that. I will post pictures afterwards. I still have to upload a bunch of the more recent pics we took...maybe I will do that tonight...if Spy behaves and goes to bed on time like a good boy.
Peace out.

What a Croc
My feet have never felt so happy - and trust me lately they have been hating me and all of my shoes...even my beautiful Italian In Blu shoes do not make my feet happy anymore. Sigh...I hope once Simon arrives that my feet will go back to normal and I can wear my shoes again. Until then I can only look at my beloved Italian shoes and wear my Crocs. At least my feet don't hurt anymore!Thursday, July 24, 2008
The District of Crafts
Case in point, Karen, whom I met through my ex-roommate Gina. Karen is the proud owner of Ipso Crafto an adorable craft store on Capitol Hill. I am sad to say that I have never been to this store since I just learned about it...but if I lived in DC I would definitely have signed up for sewing lessons ASAP. You can also book parties and such - what a great idea and a great way to introduce crafting to your kids.
Karen in front of her store.
Karen is essentially living out one of my many dreams...owning your own boutique. This is something that I have always wanted to do. Seeing as I have ZERO business sense and maybe even less fashion sense I never really got past the daydreaming stage. Although when I sold my house I did for a brief second think about purchasing a franchise of the Italian brand Calzedonia which sells bathing suits, socks and pantyhose. Check out their website - their Summer 08 collection is amazing...sigh. Then I realized how much work that would be and I know that starting a family would take priority so I went back to school for teaching instead.
So for those of you in DC and looking for fabric and thread, stop by and say hello to Karen. Then buy some pretty fabric and sew me and Baby Simon something nice...just kidding...ok not really :P
Tomorrow we are off to Altoona, PA for Dan's brother's wedding...I will try to remember my camera and post pics - I got an amazing dress for only $9.99 at Motherhood Maternity which I am excited to wear with my new Guess shoes (NOT flip flops for once). Have a good weekend everyone!

Cell phones and shoes

She is the best and brightest little student - look how intently she is listening to her Zia explain about the importance of good footwear. She is going to be the smartest girl in her class.
I spent the cold and snowy! day writing a paper so I have no news to tell. I did go to the doctor for a physical last week only to find out that I have very high blood pressure and was immediately put on medication...sheesh...another thing to add to my list of aches and pains. Getting old SUCKS!
One last thing - congrats to my friends Roberta and Mark who had a beautiful bouncing baby boy, William Francis, this morning at 11:40am. Liam is 6 lbs, 5 oz and 20 inches long. Both mom and baby are fine and Auntie P cannot wait to see them tomorrow! So many little boys - my friends Dawn and Mike welcomed Jacob Zachary into the world last week as well...sigh...I want one too!!!
Buona Notte ragazzi!

Foot Fetish
Out of the Hollywood tan exit two very orangey brown college girls in sweats. I notice that they have slippers on their feet. Ha! I think to myself, remembering all the times, hung over on a Sat or Sun morning when I went to the 7-11 or McDonald's in similar foot wear. These girls walked towards the parking lot, I finished my conversation with Lisa and went into the cleaners.
About 10 minutes later, I am in my car, crossing the intersection at Henderson Road and Rt 202 (a huge intersection) when I see the same girls crossing 202. The had WALKED to Hollywood Tans in their slippers. Now seriously, when did slippers become appropriate foot wear for WALKING more than to and from your car in the parking lot of the 7-11?
These were not indoor/outdoor slippers either - they were fuzzy (see below). The worst part - it had rained too so the ground wasn't what you would call, um, dry.
I was kind of grossed out and even outraged - I mean come on - if you are going to walk OUTSIDE for over a mile on WET ground can you at least find a pair of shoes? Flip flops even? Where are the fashion police when you need them!
OK, I feel better now. Back to my homework. May all your feet be warm and dry tonight!

Manolo knock off
I must have stored this image in my subconscience because my wedding shoes were the first ones I tried on and the only ones that I thought were appropriate. I miss SATC. Sigh.
Happy Tuesday!
